I aim to portray that which is beyond the surface, to produce an internal reaction in others, to give the viewer the ability of experiencing something which I have found beautiful. When painting any subject, I seek to evoke a sense of its essence. I hope to interrupt the viewer and give a sensation of initial meeting with an overwhelming physical presence.

When producing a portrait getting to know my sitter in some way and extracting a sense of them is crucial to the success of the work. It is only through the act of translating a person's presence, that I have this specific connection with another human being. The connection I feel I have with them, is that of inner communication, this I feel is subconsciously conveyed through my work.

When I feel a painting works, it holds the fundamental nature of my subject, as if the person is standing before me, more than just a mirror like reflection.
